Moretti blames Communist leader Bertinotti for election results
MILAN — Italian helmer Nanni Moretti, in an interview with pubcaster RAI Wednesday at the Cannes Film Festival, has accused Communist Refoundation Party leader Fausto Bertinotti of paving the way for Silvio Berlusconi’s election victory.
The Communist Refoundation Party ran separately from the Olive Tree center-left coalition, weakening the anti-Berlusconi coalition and causing its defeat, according to some Italians, including Moretti.
“Berlusconi should not thank millions of voters for his victory but just one person: Bertinotti,” Moretti said.
Bertinotti hit back, saying Moretti was just “one of Italy’s left-winger arrogant intellectuals who hold powerful positions in the media and think they are the defendants of people. Fortunately, they don’t have tanks but only words.”
