‘Ginostra’ makes o’seas sales

Keitel, MacDowell star in crime pic

CANNES — StudioCanal has sold the $17 million “Ginostra” to a handful of territories, including Spain (Lauren Films), South Africa (IFD) and Brazil (Europa), on its first day at market.

Half a dozen others, including Australia, Latin America, Korea, the Middle East, Greece and Turkey, were in negotiation Monday following the debut screening of a short promo reel.

The film will be distributed in the U.K. via StudioCanal’s deal with Pathe, in Italy via its joint venture with Rai Cinema and via Bac Distribution in France.

“Ginostra” stars Harvey Keitel and Andie MacDowell. Keitel plays an FBI investigator posted to a Sicilian island to solve a Mafia crime.

“Ginostra” is French director Manuel Pradel’s first English-language pic. It was co-produced by StudioCanal’s Manuel Chiche with co-writer Jean Francois Fonlupt’s Emotion Pictures. Co-producer KC Medien is handling German, Eastern Europe and Russian sales.
