France’s Cahiers prepping fete

Legendary French film monthly magazine Les Cahiers du Cinema is preparing celebrations to mark its 50th birthday in April.

A special Cahiers du Cinema festival of 50 films, including works by Agnes Varda, Manoel de Oliveira, Claude Chabrol and Edward Yang, will begin in Paris at the end of the month and travel around France and to over 70 countries.

The Cannes Film Festival and TV channel Canal Plus plan an homage on May 17. Other international fests marking the occasion include San Francisco, Venice and Locarno.

In New York, the Film Society of Lincoln Center will host a three-week event in October. And in November, the Pompidou Center in Paris is planning an exhibition as well as 60 films.
