TV production company Zoo Prods. has acquired “Dare for Dollars” from shuttered entertainment Web site Z.com. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Zoo plans to continue the popular site in May and exploit the show’s format in other media, including broadcast or cable TV in the U.S. and overseas.
” ‘DareforDollars.com’ was an idea that we’d wanted to do for a long time, and Z.com seemed like the perfect home for it,” said Zoo founder and executive producer Barry Poznick.
“We’re sorry to see Z.com go, but we didn’t want ‘Dare’ to disappear with it.” Poznick and partner John Stevens developed “Dare” around an online auction in which cash-strapped contestants log on, share their sob stories and then bid on bizarre dares that they are willing to perform for cash. Zoo has also created and produced MTV’s “Blame Game,” USA Networks’ “Crush” and MTV’s “Snowed-In” special.
