World Brief

Viva Media is taking a step outside of its all-music programming by acquiring Brainpool, a producer of formats for general private webs.

The two Cologne-based companies have agreed that Viva will take over the 64.5% held by Brainpool’s managers, followed by a public offer for Brainpool’s outstanding shares. Together with Brainpool, Viva Media expects to generate revenues of 125 million euros ($112 million) annually.

The addition of Brainpool, producer of some of the most successful young-skewing comedy shows aired in Germany, will be Viva’s first involvement with webs other than its own two music channels, Viva 1 and Viva 2.
