Vidgame publishing giant Activision has acquired game developer Treyarch Invention for nearly $20 million in stock. Santa Monica-based Treyarch has developed a series of popular games for Activision, including “Spider-Man” and the “Tony Hawk Pro Skater” series, as well as the upcoming game based on Fox’s “Minority Report” sci-fi actioner.
As part of the deal, Activision will hire Treyarch’s 140 staffers. Investors in privately held Treyarch will receive 545,974 shares of Activision when the deal closes and up to another 224,077 in the next several years, depending on performance criteria. That would value the deal at up to $19.8 million, based on Activision’s Tuesday’s closing share price of $25.75. Year-to-date, Activision shares are up 95%, making it one of the strongest performers in the sector.
