Ticketmaster nabs Evite.com

Cyberbiz Brief

Barry Diller’s Ticketmaster said Friday that it has agreed to acquire Evite.com, a struggling San Francisco-based party-invitation site, for an undisclosed amount of cash and stock. Evite, which relies upon advertising for revenues, will be folded into Los Angeles-based Ticketmaster’s online ticketing and event site. As part of the agreement, Evite’s online operations will be relocated to the Ticketmas-ter’s CitySearch offices in Pasadena, Calif. Evite has been seeking a buyer since last fall, after slashing its staff by about 60%. In addition to its invita-tion service, San Francisco-based Evite also offers a reminder service, polling, payments collection, restaurant and concert listings and shopping.
