Sony’s online ‘Room’ bows

Faux reality show centers on fictional teen

Bowing its $35 million online entertainment venture Screenblast today, Sony debuted original program “Rachel’s Room” from “Dawson’s Creek” exec producer Paul Stupin.

The faux reality show centers on fictional teen Rachel Reed (tyro thesp Maggie Grace) in a “fly on the wall” look at her life. Netizens can also read her diary and participate in live chats and message board postings.

” ‘Rachel’s Room’ came out of an idea to do a show specifically for the broadband medium,” Stupin said. “We wanted to do something that was as far away from television as we could get — something edgier, rawer and more interactive.”

In addition to 21 original online programs, Screenblast also gives users a chance to edit trailers and video sequences using clips from Sony’s films, TV shows and music.
