RioPort, Best Buy to distrib tunes

Downloads to be available in summer

Digital Music company RioPort has inked a deal to distribute digital downloads from all five major label groups on the Web site of music and electronics retailer Best Buy.

The downloads, slated to become available this summer, will initially include 8,000-10,000 tracks in several formats, with the number of tracks expanding as the labels continue to digitize their music catalogues.

Pricing will range from 50¢ to $2.00 per single song and $12-$16 for each digital album.

Pact expands on Best Buy’s initial forays into digital distribution, including a partnership with music portal Liquid Audio to deliver free and paid downloads signed in May 2000.
