H-P, RealNetworks pacts for home fun

Hewlett-Packard and RealNetworks have inked a deal to develop home entertainment products designed to allow users to play music and streaming video from the Internet on devices other than personal computers. HP brings its consumer technology products and its customer base to the table, while RealNetworks offers its RealPlayer and RealJukebox software for future products and services that are skedded to bow later this year. The deal also betters RealNetworks’ chance to become the standard for playing audio and video on Internet appliances and other wireless devices. RealPlayer currently has 180 million registered users.
