Fox ‘Ghouls’ to haunt vid, cable

Project bows on homevid, then Fox Family Channel

HOLLYWOOD — Fox is looking to get more spooks for the buck with production of a new movie based on a book from “Goosebumps” author R.L. Stine.

Project, which will debut on homevideo Sept. 4, will then make its TV premiere on Fox Family Channel as the centerpiece of the net’s annual “13 days of Halloween” programming event in October. “When Good Ghouls Go Bad,” which, like the popular book and Fox TV series “Goosebumps,” combines horror and humor, stars Christopher Lloyd and Joe Pichler (“Varsity Blues”).

The film, produced by Fox TV Pictures, follows a 12-year-old who has moved with his father and Uncle Fred (Lloyd) to a Minnesota town seemingly haunted by a curse that prevents its residents from celebrating Halloween.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Fox Family Worldwide will mount a major marketing, publicity and promotion campaign; a dedicated Web site at Foxfamilychannel.com will feature a sweepstakes and streaming video clips from the movie.

The VHS edition of “When Good Ghouls Go Bad” will be priced at $14.98, the DVD at $19.98.
