Exhib seeks Fandango deal

Bankruptcy court must approve Net ticketing pact

Carmike Cinemas is seeking bankruptcy court blessing for anointing Fandango as its Internet ticketer.

The Columbus, Ga.-based exhib is currently in Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization proceedings. In a regulatory filing circulated Tuesday, Carmike asked that Fandango be assigned exclusive rights to its Internet ticketing.

The Santa Monica-based ticketer, which also does some phone-based movie ticket sales, has pacts with a half-dozen other exhibs. Its agreement with Carmike — exhib’s first Internet-ticketing pact — dates to May 2000 but still requires approval by U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Del. A hearing on the matter has been set for Sept. 28.

Carmike filed for bankruptcy reorganization in August 2000, listing assets of $841.2 million and liabilities totaling $652.9 million.
