The European Union may continue financial aid to the territory’s audiovisual industry to help improve distribution and advertising.
European culture ministers will meet in Belgium today to establish a framework for carrying on the aid, which could include closer co-operation between public and private investment sources. Philippe Maystadt, president of the European Investment Bank, will address the confab.
Move comes hot on the heels of September’s review of challenges faced by the audiovisual industry.
But Belgium, which holds the EU presidency for six months, is urging ministers not to open up the industry before November’s World Trade Organization meet in Qatar.
