LONDON — German media giant Bertelsmann said Thursday it has acquired U.S. Internet/e-mail marketing company Zooba.com.
Bertelsmann, which owns publishing giant Random House, among others, said that it plans to use Zooba.com to win new members for its 50 U.S. book clubs. Bertelsmann also plans to launch Zooba in Europe.
Zooba.com is a free service that boasts 2.3 million members who can subscribe to e-mails on 48 different topics of interest.Company also said it was planning to launch specialty clubs modeled on U.S. examples in both Germany and France this year. Bertelsmann club sales generated on the Internet will reach an estimated DM150 million ($71 million) this fiscal year.
