Nigel Travis has been promoted to president and chief operating officer at Blockbuster Video.
He had been exec VP and president of the worldwide stores division.
Until Travis’ promotion on Tuesday, the title of president had been held by chairman and CEO John Antioco. The chief operating officer post is new to the company.
The move is meant to recognize Travis’ contributions to the company and establish a more traditional corporate structure, with Antioco focusing on broad, strategic issues and Travis managing the business on a day-to-day basis.
Exec VP and chief financial officer Larry Zine, exec VP and general counsel Edward Stead and exec VP of content worldwide Dean Wilson will continue to report directly to Antioco.
Travis will retain his overall responsibility for store operations worldwide and add marketing, merchandising and new concept development to his portfolio.
Before joining Blockbuster, Travis had served in the Middle East and Africa for Burger King Corp.
Shares of Blockbuster closed up 15¢ on Tuesday to $20.
