MIAMI — Univision Communications has upped veep Robert Cahill to vice chairman, a newly created position.
Cahill, who remains corporate secretary, has been at Univision since it was acquired by Jerry Perenchio in 1992.
“Through the years, Bob has demonstrated commitment and loyalty to Univision, and this appointment recognizes the leadership role that he has played,” said Perenchio, chairman and CEO, who also assumed the responsibilities of prexy and chief operating officer after Henry Cisneros ankled last August.
Rumors were flying that Juan Villalonga, the former Telefonica chairman and CEO who was elected to the Univision board in February, would be named prexy following a board meeting last Wednesday.
A Univision spokesman denied the report.
