The Screen Actors Guild’s nominating committee has cleared Valerie Harper to run for prexy and longtime activist Kent McCord for treasurer.
Harper, who has not yet delivered a platform statement, faces challenges from Angeltompkins, Eugene Boggs and Melissa Gilbert in the race to succeed William Daniels. Harper, who has been endorsed by Daniels, finished first among the 79 candidates running for Hollywood board seats last year.
McCord, best known for his work on “Adam-12,” is not affiliated with any of the factions within SAG. Current treasurer F.J. O’Neill has announced he will not run.
McCord won SAG’s Ralph Morgan Award in 1999 for service to the Hollywood branch after 11 years as a board member and four as first national VP. He also chaired SAG’s children’s committee, the publications committee and the agency relations committee.
SAG had no official comment about the nominating committee’s actions.
