Screen Actors Guild topper A. Robert Pisano has told Guild staff to work on ways to encourage filmmakers to shoot in Gotham in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
“I’ve ordered everyone to explore what we can do to help overcome the natural disinclination to go to New York,” Pisano said in an interview with Daily Variety.
Pisano, tapped as the Guild’s CEO on Sept. 10, said specific measures to attract production had not been developed yet. He added that SAG staff will work with the Mayor’s Office of Theater, Film and Broadcasting in seeking possible solutions.
The exec reported positive reaction from his visit last week to Gotham to meet with New York staff and elected officers. “Everyone is trying their best to get back to normal in spite of the emotional trauma,” he added. “I have been struck by the sincerity and conviction of everyone I’ve met to change the Guild for the better.”
Pisano also reiterated plans to visit all of SAG’s two dozen branches eventually with the next destinations likely to be Chicago, Miami and Orlando.
