KFWB newsies ink contract

Assistants get 3-year deal with pay hike, signing bonus

KFWB-AM’s news assistants have signed their first contract, 16 months after filing for representation by the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists.

The assistants, who had authorized a strike in August, agreed to a three-year deal with the Viacom-owned station calling for a 2.25% signing bonus and 3% wage hikes in the second and third years.

AFTRA held an informational picket a month ago at the radio station in Hollywood over stalled negotiations. AFTRA also filed an unfair labor practices complaint with the National Labor Relations Board last month over alleged lack of disclosure of salary and health benefits.
