Inside Move: SAG meeting to resolve key issues

Agenda includes last year's Gotham elections, non-union work

The national board of the Screen Actors Guild is about to face the fallout for its ongoing internal bickering and delaying of key decisions.

Members of the 107-member panel have begun poring over a 290-page agenda — 28 items, many carried over from previous meetings — for a special two-day meeting, scheduled for noon to 8 p.m. PDT Monday and Tuesday.

An extra day was scheduled after the board completed less than half of the agenda at its July 30 meeting, which concluded with acrimonious debate over the still-unresolved “governance” issue of cutting the board size and boosting Hollywood’s share above the current 46%. The governance issue is set for discussion on Oct. 13.

Next week’s agenda includes such hot-button topics as a challenge to last fall’s Gotham elections; requiring board members to use discount air fares and limit reimbursements on travel expenses to $100 per day; possible expulsion of members for non-union work; an audit of last year’s commercial strike expenses; and AFTRA’s contribution to strike expenses.
