Inside Move: Orgs delay nom anouncements

PGA, WGA hold off to avoid conflicts

In moves underscoring the importance that Hollywood attaches to awards shows, a pair of organizations decided to delay nominee announcements this week in part to achieve better coverage.

The Producers Guild of America had planned to announce its Golden Laurel nominees Tuesday but decided to wait until today to avoid competing with the American Film Institute’s announcement of its 10 movies of the year.

The Writers Guild of America tentatively planned to announce its television and radio nominees on Tuesday but decided to wait two more days for two reasons: It needed more time to triple-check credits on nominees, and it wanted to avoid receiving less prominent coverage than the announcement might if it appeared Thursday in the Los Angeles Times, which uses a tabloid format on that day for its Calendar section.
