ILM’s Plumer upped to tech chief

Appointment comes in preparation of f/x-heavy pics

HOLLYWOOD — Cliff Plumer has been upped to chief technology officer for special f/x powerhouse Industrial Light and Magic. The post was vacant for the past two years.

Plumer will oversee all of the San Francisco-based company’s research and development, systems support, networking operations, information systems and production software. The appointment comes as ILM is readying to tackle f/x-heavy pics including “The Incredible Hulk” and “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and to complete “Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones,” “Minority Report” and “Men in Black II.”

Plumer was most recently director of digital technologies. He has been with ILM for five years.

“Cliff’s leadership has already been demonstrated by his reorganizing of ILM’s digital technologies areas to align better with our production goals,” said Gail Currey, veep and chief operating officer of ILM.

Prior to joining ILM, Plumer was a partner at Parallax Software, which developed software tools for the visual effects industry.
