Metro Center employees unionized

HOLLYWOOD — The Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees has announced it has organized the production-technical services employees of Metro Center in Rockford, Ill.

The contract covers approximately 67 workers, who voted by a 5-1 margin to affiliate with the union. IATSE said the deal covers employer contributions for pension, health and welfare; annuity benefits; and addresses issues such as substandard wages, scheduling practices, the use of unskilled temporary agency workers and subjective supervisory practices.

Metro Center is a 10,000-seat arena/convention facility and includes the Coronado Theater, a 2,400-seat venue, and Davis Park, an outdoor facility that hosts an annual Water Festival.

International reps Thomas J. Kiousis Jr. and Joanne Sanders, and special representative John Scardino, headed the organizing effort.
