Filings allege Ice Palace owners refused to negotiate with union
HOLLYWOOD — The Intl. Alliance of Theatrical & Stage Employees has filed unfair labor practice charges against the owners of the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Ice Palace Arena in Tampa, Fla.
“The charges are the result of the Ice Palace’s efforts to thwart the union, which represents arena employees,” the IA said. “The arena owners are charged with threatening employees with discipline for discussing the union at the facility, discharging the union’s president and prohibiting employees from wearing union insignia.”
The union said filings with the National Labor Relations Board also allege that Ice Palace owners have refused to negotiate with the IA, which has repped Palace employees for three years. It also plans to organize a boycott of events at the facility until the owners agree to negotiate.
Reps for the owners were not immediately available to comment.
