HOLLYWOOD — Tess Harper, a high-profile member of the Screen Actors Guild’s negotiating team, has taken out a petition for 11th VP to rep the Hollywood area.
Harper, who has urged SAG members to refuse work on non-union contracts outside the United States, has endorsed Valerie Harper for prexy. The actresses are not related.
Harper, who was nominated for an Academy Award for “Crimes of the Heart” (1986), issued an appeal in March for high-profile actors to turn down work on non-SAG projects. SAG’s Rule One explicitly bars members from working for producers who are not signatory to SAG agreements, but the union’s enforcement has been lax.
The 51-year-old Harper will be challenging board member Michael Harrity for the 11th VP post. Harrity was cleared last week to run by SAG’s nominating committee.
SAG officials also reported that Barbara Bosson, best known for her role in “Hill Street Blues,” has filed for a Hollywood board seat.
