CIE fuels CART races

World Brief

Corporacion Interamericana de Entretenimiento (CIE), Latin America’s biggest live entertainment promoter, has inked a deal with Championship Auto Racing Teams to bring the CART series to Mexico City.

CIE and specialist partners Forsythe Racing will jointly invest up to $30 million in the capital’s Hermanos Rodriguez race course to bring it up to standard for the competition.

Full financial details were not released, but CART will hold one race annually in Mexico City from 2002-’06, with the option to expand into other Latin American countries.

CIE, whose interests include amusement parks, Latin distrib Nuvision and film production arm Altavista, predicts 300,000 spectators for each race, which would make it the best-attended event of the annual 21-race series.
