Denis Leroy has been tapped production executive for Europe at Warner Bros. Intl. TV, and will be responsible for the overall management of all production-related issues in Europe for both English-lingo and local-lingo shows.
The move to appoint an exec in situ is one more indication of just how seriously Warner Bros. is taking the mandate to produce programs abroad for international consumption.
Since the international production strategy was put in place five years ago, the studio has produced 180 hours of programming abroad with a variety of international producers, broadcasters and investors.
Leroy, who is French, will be charged with ensuring that the recent production alliances between WBIT and Euro powerhouses Ufa Intl. Film and TV Production and Europe Audiovisuel are properly represented at all times.
Based in Paris, Leroy will report to Catherine Malatesta, senior VP of international TV production for the Hollywood major.
“Our international production area is working on a full slate of projects,” Malatesta said. “I’m pleased we have someone with Denis’ production expertise as such an integral member of our team.”
Leroy has more than 15 years of production experience, having most recently worked as an executive on the series “The Relic Hunter.” He also served as a producer on the series “The Raven,” co-exec producer on the series “Highlander” and as head of production for Gaumont TV.
In addition, Leroy has worked on numerous shows for French and Euro broadcasters, including “Les Monos” and “La Riviere Esperance.”
