TriStar Int’l pacts with C5, Unilever

$10 mil, multi-year deal yields 100 features

LONDON — Columbia TriStar Intl. Television has struck a $10 million ad-supported programming deal with Channel 5 and consumer products giant Unilever, likely the biggest barter deal in Euro TV history.

In return for airtime, Unilever is paying for more than 100 library features — including TV movies — giving C5 the exclusive rights to pics such as “Sleepless in Seattle,” “Philadelphia,” “In the Line of Fire” and “Groundhog Day.”

The deal — which was described as multiyear — also includes miniseries and specials. Unilever’s ads, however, will not be specific to Columbia TriStar product. The company is the U.K.’s largest advertiser with an annual TV spend of $230 million.
