The Cablers: Times, Nat’l Geo pact

'Science Times' to begin airing in June as part of deal

HOLLYWOOD — The National Geographic Channel U.S., a partnership between National Geographic Television and Fox Cable Networks Group, has announced a joint venture with the New York Times for programming and news segments to begin airing on the network in the first quarter of 2001.

As part of the collaboration, 26 episodes of the one-hour series “Science Times” are being planned to air over a period of two years starting in June. Series will address science and nature topics and likely include contributions from New York Times and National Geographic staffers.

In addition, National Geographic Channel has signed former ABC News correspondent Tom Foreman and news anchor Susan Roesgen, most recently of WDSU New Orleans, as co-anchors for “National Geographic Today,” the channel’s live, daily news program.
