MIAMI — Turner Broadcasting System Latin America has upped Juan Carlos Urdaneta to president.
Urdaneta served as senior vice president for TBS Latin America, where he was in charge of distribution sales and marketing for Turner’s networks throughout the region and the Caribbean.
He joined TBS in 1994 as regional controller for Latin America. In 1996 he was promoted to regional VP of northern Latin America sales for Turner Intl. and later to senior VP of sales and marketing in Brazil, the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico.
Urdaneta fills the post formerly held by David Levy, named co-president of TBS Intl. on Sept. 5.
Urdaneta oversees the channel’s Cartoon Network Latin America, TNT Latin America, CNN en Espanol, CNN Intl., CNNfn and CNN/Sport Illustrated, managing staff in Atlanta and in regional sales offices in Buenos Aires, Miami, Mexico City and Sao Paolo.
“Latin America is the fastest growing region anywhere in the world for Turner Broadcasting,” said Levy. “It represents about 30% of all of our international revenue and is a major distribution hub for our networks.”
