David Boylan, general manager of Fox’s WTVT Tampa, has been named successor to Diana L. Vargas, who will ankle as veep-G.M. of Fox flagship KTTV Los Angeles on June 30.
Boylan will also serve as veep/G.M. of Regional Sports Net West.
He will oversee all business and administrative duties at KTTV as well as local ad sales, marketing and program scheduling for Fox Southern California regional sports networks, Fox Sports Net and Fox Sports Net 2.
“David has played a significant role in WTVT’s impressive growth, which is best exemplified by its 10% viewership increase achieved from sign-on to sign-off under his three years at the helm,” said Mitchell Stern, chairman and CEO of Fox Television Stations, in announcing the appointment.
Boylan served as WTVT’s veep-G.M. since March 1997. From 1986-1997, he served as veep-G.M. of another Fox station, WGHP in Greensboro, N.C.. Before that, he was station manager of NBC-owned station WKYC in Cleveland.
No word yet on where Vargas is expected to land following her resignation notice last month (Daily Variety, May 30).
With the recent shuffles, two G.M. posts remain open among Fox’s 22 O&Os: Boylan’s job at WTVT and the post at WTTG in Washington, D.C., vacated by Laureen Ong, who left last month to serve as prexy of National Geographic Channel (Daily Variety, May 2).
