Satcaster to help develop direct-to-home b'casting

HONG KONG — News Corp.’s Asian satcaster Star TV will participate in a consortium to develop direct-to-home satellite broadcasting in South Korea.

Company, tentatively named Korea Satellite Broadcasting Corp., will apply to the Korean broadcasting commission for a license to launch the service.

Other members of the joint venture include Dacom Satellite Multimedia System and SK Telecom.

Financial details of the agreement have not yet been made public.
