‘Secret Agent’ replaced

UPN pulls Sonnenfeld series due to low ratings

For his next covert mission, the “Secret Agent Man” may want to investigate what happened to his timeslot.

UPN will put the spy series from producer-director Barry Sonnenfeld on hiatus after tonight’s episode. “Secret Agent Man” will be replaced by reruns of “The Parkers” and “Moesha” at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., respectively, on Tuesday, April 11.

The future of “Secret Agent Man” is unclear; if it returns, UPN is expected to air the show’s remaining episodes in the summer.

Lowest ratings

After tonight, five episodes of “Secret Agent Man” will have aired. The Columbia TriStar hour averaged just a 1.6 Nielsen household rating and 3 share, making it the weblet’s lowest-rated skein on the air.

Sonnenfeld exec produces the series along with Barry Josephson and Michael Duggan.

Meanwhile, Fox announced that it will move the lame duck drama “Party of Five” back to its post-“Beverly Hills, 90210” home one week earlier than previ-ously announced.

‘Party’ almost over

“Party of Five” will now return to Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on April 19. The show’s two-hour season finale airs May 3 at 8 p.m. — two weeks before older sibling “90210” bids its own farewell, on May 17.

Once a staple for the teen/young adult set, “Party of Five” languished on Tuesdays this season. “PO5’s” early May finale means only one episode of the show — its finale — will air during sweeps.

Also, CBS is pulling the plug on “Grapevine” a week earlier than announced. Net had originally planned to air the last seg of the show April 10. Instead, a re-peat of “Everybody Loves Raymond” will air at 8:30 p.m. next Monday.

“Grapevine” has been underperforming in the slot since bowing in late February. Eye execs didn’t want to do anything that might weaken ratings for the night, which includes one of the final episodes of the eight-night “Falcone” event.

While CBS hasn’t officially killed “Grapevine,” insiders say it’s highly unlikely that the show will return next fall.

Season to date, “Grapevine” has averaged a 7.2 rating, 11 share, in homes.
