Scribe in the ‘Dark’

Echevarria tapped for Cameron's Fox skein

Scribe Rene Echevarria has signed on as co-exec producer of Fox’s new Jim Cameron sci-fi skein “Dark Angel” as part of a just-inked overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV.

Exclusive multiyear pact, valued at low-seven figures, calls for Echevarria to develop new projects for the studio while working with Cameron and exec producer Charles Eglee on “Angel.”

“Rene is a gifted writer with a particular strength for crafting smart, distinctive and high-quality character-driven dramas,” said 20th Century Fox TV topper Gary Newman, who announced the deal Wednesday with co-prexy Dana Walden. “Those are the kinds of shows this studio loves to make and is clearly the kind of show Jim and Chic are making in ‘Dark Angel.’ ”

Before joining “Angel,” Echevarria was a supervising producer on Paramount’s short-lived but critically praised drama “Now & Again.” He previously had been a supervising producer on “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.”

Echevarria said he looked forward “to helping Chic bring Jim’s distinctive vision to television.

“As soon as I saw the ‘Dark Angel’ pilot, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. It’s big and exciting with a great balance between character, action and humor.”

Deal was brokered by Paul Haas at AMG and attorney Jamie Mandelbaum of Armstrong Hirsch Jackoway Tyerman & Wertheimer.
