The pilot episode of NBC’s troubled new Michael Richards sitcom won’t be the first episode viewers see.
Peacock execs have decided that what had been skedded as the skein’s second seg will now serve as the show’s Oct. 24 premiere episode. The pilot episode will most likely air a week later, on Halloween.
It’s the latest twist in the ongoing “Michael Richards Show” saga. The original pilot, shot last spring, was discarded after producers and NBC both agreed that the episode simply didn’t work.
Early buzz on the new pilot, however, has been less than favorable. But NBC execs privately say they’re pleased with the progress made since the original pilot was shot and believe the second seg is even more improved.
An NBC spokesman said the episode switch was not related to the net’s opinion of the quality of the pilot.
“We wanted to put out best foot forward, and we felt this was a stronger episode,” she said.
