Dick Kurlander, one of the most important program advisers to TV stations for the last 16 years, has resigned as VP of programming for Petry Television.
Over that period, Petry represented more than 100 TV stations, and Kurlander’s job was to counsel them on their decisions about which syndicated series to buy.
A thumbs-down from Kurlander would make his station clients wary about buying even highly publicized shows. He was particularly critical of distributors who kept gobbling up more and more of the advertising time in their syndicated shows, frequently urging stations to pass on a show that overstepped these bounds.
Before he joined Petry in 1984, Kurlander was program manager at WDIV-TV Detroit. He was also VP of programming for Katz Television, a rep firm like Petry, and program manager for WBZ-TV Boston.
