Univision UHF-TV news skein bests Big Three

HOLLYWOOD — Univision 41’s early evening news program, “Noticias 41,” received the highest ratings among adults 18-49 in Gotham’s evening news race, beating network-owned ABC, CBS and NBC stations.

According to an audience analysis of the July 2000 sweep period, the Spanish-language UHF-TV station boasted 272,000 viewers for its evening news, with anchors Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller. Coming in second place in the race was Channel 7’s Eyewitness News with 253,000.

“It’s absolutely fabulous,” Univision 41 spokesman Ted Faraone said. “The Nielsen numbers are proving what we knew all along, and that is that there is a tremendous appetite for Spanish Language news in the New York area,” Faraone said.
