NEW YORK — Carson Daly, host of MTV’s “Total Request Live,” has inked a wide-ranging talent and development deal with both the music cabler and CBS.
As part of the deal — a harbinger of cross-network synergy between Viacom-owned MTV and CBS — the Eye net plans to utilize Daly in a variety of capacities, including, among other things, hosting high-profile events on the network (Daily Variety, Feb. 16). Within the last year, Daly has hosted two teen beauty pageants on CBS.
“Carson is one of the most dynamic and talented young stars on television,” Nancy Tellem, president of CBS Entertainment, said. “He has been a great addition to our pageants, and we are excited about developing new opportunities for him at CBS.”
Daly, who will stay on as host of the popular “TRL,” will now become an exec producer on the show. He will also continue to host and appear on other MTV programs.
In addition, MTV and CBS are working with Daly to set up Carson Daly Prods., a production company through which Daly will create and develop shows for both nets.
