NATPE anticipates new media binge

Program buyers' attendance up 5% at confab

Not only will the megamerger between AOL and Time Warner be the buzz at the upcoming NATPE convention in New Orleans, but an impressive array of new media companies are set to make a splash there.

Per the latest stats from NATPE officials, 140 new media companies will fly flags at the four-day trade show (Jan. 24-27), representing the non-profit org’s biggest growth area.

Total exhibitors at the show are 765, up from 715 last year. Of these, 300 exhibs are international companies, on a par with last year’s foreign attendance.

While total attendance is pacing on a par with last year’s record attendance of 17,500, the number of program buyers signing up is 5% ahead of last year’s tally at this point. More execs from Asia and the Middle East have also registered, up some 10%, as are the categories for business development execs.

“Despite major industry consolidation over the past year, our conference continues to grow, and NATPE 2000 will reflect the new players and companies which are dramatically changing our world,” NATPE president and CEO Bruce Johansen said.
