Murdoch may bring Disney web to India

Mouse moving onto Star's sat platform

News Corp. is negotiating a deal with the Walt Disney Co. to bring the Disney Channel to India via the Star TV satellite platform. That move would pit the kids’ channel directly against Zee TV’s platform, which beams the Cartoon Network from Turner, the Kermit Channel from Hallmark and Nickelodeon from Viacom.

Disney programs are currently available to the Indian audience through Doordarshan, Zee and Sony Entertainment Network. The distribution had been in the hands of Modi Entertainment Network.

Disney’s ESPN is also part of the Star bouquet of channels in Asia.
