Mandalay TV Pics taps Stephen prexy

Ex-Avnet/Kerner exec noted for her film and TV success

Feature film producer Elizabeth Stephen has joined Mandalay Television Pictures to head the division.

Stephen replaces Tom Patricia, who recently joined Artists Television Group. The exec reports to Peter Guber and Paul Schaeffer, the chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of the Mandalay Entertainment Group, who jointly made the announcement.

Stephen arrives as prexy at Mandalay Television Pictures from Avnet/Kerner, where she most recently served as exec veep.

“Elizabeth is an unusual hybrid in that she has the demonstrated ability to navigate and complete successful projects for both the large and small screen,” Guber said. “As the lines between entertainment mediums are blurred, this ability will be highly visible in our continued success.”

During her six-year stint at Avnet/Kerner, Stephen was involved with projects such as the upcoming Dustin Hoffman picture “Dinner for Two at the Old Cortez” for Miramax. She also secured the rights to the story of Unabomber Ted Kaczynski’s brother David for Disney. She’s moving forward on the film “Today I Am a Boy” for Disney.

Also at Avnet/Kerner, she co-produced “Mighty Ducks 3,” developed “George of the Jungle” and produced the ABC made-for-TV movie “My Last Love.”

Prior to Avnet/Kerner, Stephen served as senior veep at Fried/Woods Films and three years as a creative exec at Hollywood Pictures.

Mandalay Television Pictures’ recent projects include CBS’ “Linda McCartney Story”; the ABC telepic “King of the World,” about Muhammad Ali; and TBS’ “First Daughter.”
