KTLA trounced the competition in its coverage of the annual New Year’s Day Rose Parade, scoring a whopping 21.8/49 household rating over second-place KABC (4.9/12).
Univision affil KMEX was the third-place finisher (3.8/9), overwhelming its Spanish-lingo rival Telemundo’s KVEA, which registered just a 0.4/1 in its debut paradecast. Rounding out the race were KNBC (3.0/7), KCBS (2.6/6) and indie station KWHY (0.2/0).
KTLA’s strong numbers were actually unchanged from 1999 (its Stephanie Edwards and Bob Eubanks-hosted show is consistently Los Angeles’ Rose Parade ratings winner), but more auds tuned into the paradecasts in general than in years past.
Many viewers also flipped on their sets the night before — KMEX’s household 8-11 p.m. ratings on Friday shot up 140% over last year. But first place went to KABC (15.2/29), followed by KNBC (7.4/14), KMEX (6.0/11), KCBS (3.4/6), KTLA (2.8/5), KTTV (2.6/5), KCAL (2.4/5) and KCOP (1.8/3).
