Stop the presses: With all the nominations in, KCAL is now the nominations leader among local outlets for this year’s Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards.
The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences originally announced the local noms last week without the category of top news videographer, due to scheduling problems experienced by out-of-state judging panels.
At the time, KTTV led all stations with 20 noms. But now that the news videographer ballots are in, KCAL is tops with 22 nominations.
KCAL took three of the five nominations for news videographer, giving the independent outlet an edge over its higher-rated competition. The Young Broadcasting-owned station continues to air an all-news primetime lineup from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Meanwhile, KCBS landed the other two slots in the news videographer category, upping the station’s nominations to 17 — which brings it to a tie with KCOP for third-most nominated station.
Local Emmys will be handed out June 17 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
