HBO Films has cast Thomas Jane as Mickey Mantle in “Homerun Race,” an original movie dealing with the rivalry between New York Yankees sluggers Mantle and Roger Maris to break Babe Ruth’s home run record.
Jane was one of the leads in last summer’s thriller “Deep Blue Sea.” He has completed two other theatricals: “Under Suspicion,” featuring Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman, under the direction of Stephen Hopkins, and “Dancing in the Dark,” starring Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie, directed by Michael Cristofer.
Billy Crystal will direct “Homerun Race.” He’s also executive producer, along with Ross Greenburg. The original screenplay is by Hank Steinberg.
Representing Jane are Colton Gramm and Ed Limato of ICM.
