Emmy-winner Hank Azaria (“Tuesdays With Morrie”) is close to signing a rich, $2 million development deal with Columbia TriStar TV, though the road to the pact has hit a few complications.
Azaria and CTTV have been negotiating on an overall pact for at least a week, but there’s also a strong possibility that Touchstone Television will get involved as well.
According to insiders, Azaria is developing a series with Seth Kurland (“Mad About You,” “Friends”), who is in the midst of a three-year overall deal at Touchstone Television. As a result, Columbia TriStar will most likely co-produce an Azaria project which Touchstone.
The goal for all sides: To pair Kurland and Azaria for a half-hour comedy, with ABC making a significant episodic commitment to the project.
Azaria and Kurland are talking to ABC execs about the project now, with a pact on hold until the Alphabet web offers a strong positive response to their ideas.
Even if the show doesn’t go through, Columbia TriStar remains a front-runner to sign Azaria, though other sources say Touchstone may still try to do a deal on its own.
