Home Box Office Inc. has been named this year’s winner of the Directors Guild of America’s diversity award, which honors the cable network’s commitment to, and leadership in, the hiring of women and ethnic minorities.
HBO CEO Jeff Bewkes is scheduled to accept the honor at the 52nd annual DGA Awards Dinner on March 11 at the Century Plaza Hotel in L.A.
The DGA cited more than 50 HBO programs, including “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge,” “Gia,” “The Rat Pack,” “Oz,” “The Sopranos” and “Dream On.”
“We have always believed that to create the most interesting stories, you need an interesting and diverse workplace. This is true not only in our building, but in front of and behind the camera as well,” Bewkes said.
