NEW YORK — Vice President Al Gore is set to participate in Oxygen Media’s “Be Fearless With Your Vote,” an initiative of special cable and online programming newly launched to coincide with election 2000.
Gore will appear on the inaugural “Oxygen Women’s Forum,” one of a slew of programs designed to focus on women and politics. The 90-minute, town hall meeting-format spec will air live June 12 on the Oxygen Network and C-Span, with simultaneous cybercast on oxygen.com. Cabler says it has extended an invitation to presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Gov. George W. Bush for another installment of the forum.
Oxygen Media has also announced a June 8 launch for its new political, social and legal advocacy Web site, befearless.com. Site will feature interviews with candidates and elected officials, campaign news, issue analyses and practical voting information — all as part of the “Be Fearless with Your Vote” initiative.
Women were “the deciding factor in the last two elections and probably will be again,” Oxygen senior VP for corporate policy and public programming Cheryl Mills told Daily Variety. “Our goal actually is to help women appreciate that they have a unique opportunity.”
Political programming will also appear on the channel’s daily news show “Pure Oxygen” and three other of Oxygen’s 19 Web sites, including personal finance site ka-ching.com, health resource site thriveonline.com, and parenting site momsonline.com.
“Oxygen Women’s Forum” will be hosted by Farai Chideya and May Lee (of “Pure Oxygen”), exec produced by Scott Carter (“Exhale with Candice Bergen”) and Staness Jonekos (“Inhale”), and produced and directed by Scott Preston (“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”).
