The secret’s out: Producers have completed casting for John Goodman’s still-untitled fall Fox laffer.
Comedian Mo Gaffney (“Jailbait,” “Mad About You”) has been hired to play Goodman’s ex-wife Elizabeth on the series, produced by Carsey-Werner. Ex-“Saturday Night Live” co-star Charles Rocket plays Gaffney’s new husband, while Julia McIlvine plays Goodman’s niece.
Goodman stars in the sitcom as William “Butch” Gamble, an average guy who moves to Los Angeles after coming out to his wife. The series picks up four years later as Butch returns to his Ohio hometown and moves in with his sister to help raise her two children.
Stage vets Orson Bean and Anita Gillette had been previously cast as Goodman’s parents, while Melissa Peterman plays his sister and Cody Kasch plays his nephew. Greg Pitts has been hired to play Goodman’s estranged son Danny.
Bonnie Turner, Terry Turner, Bob Kushell, Marcy Carsey, Tom Werner and Caryn Mandabach exec produce the series, which has gone through multiple title changes (“Don’t Ask,” “Goodman”). One possible new title: “Butch.”
