LONDON — Indie TV producer GMG Endemol has picked up a 50% stake in the interactive TV company Victoria Real.
Deal gives GMG Endemol, co-owned by the U.K.’s Guardian Media Group and pan-European TV producer/distrib Endemol Entertainment, its first foothold in digital media.
Victoria, with a staff of 65, was already working with GMG Endemol on the “Big Brother” Web site for Channel 4’s version of the hyper-popular format, to air this summer on both TV and the Web.
Victoria will use its infusion of cash to create interactive versions of other TV shows. Depending on performance, GMG Endemol’s investment could eventually add up to eight figures.
“This is a key step as we position ourselves to take advantage of the digital revolution,” said Tom Barnicoat, chief exec of GMG Endemol.
