PARIS — The countdown is under way in France for the launch of the successful gameshow “Who Wants To be a Millionaire.”
TF1, France’s No. 1 private network, is heavily hyping the show, which will hit French TV screens at the beginning of July. The channel’s programming chief Etienne Mougeotte predicted this week: “It is going to be the event of the summer.”
French “Millionaire” will be hosted by Jean-Pierre Foucault, an institution on Gallic television with 34 years as a presenter under his belt.
Recruitment of the participants begins later this month. But the prize money won’t make any of them a millionaire. The 3 million franc jackpot is worth around $430,000.
